AECOM Student Summer Intro-Interns 2019 in Aiken, South Carolina
United States of America - South Carolina, Aiken
"Intro-Interns" is a program that will provide first and second year students the opportunity to experience the Savannah River Site while providing support to Savannah River Remediation (SRR) as a Limited Service Employee (LSE) on the Savannah River Site (SRS), a US Department of Energy (DOE) facility in western South Carolina.
Often, these underclass students do not qualify for the full summer internships that require advanced class requirements. This 8 week program is designed as an introduction to Savannah River Remediation and will familiarize the early-college students with SRR and the work culture at the Savannah River Site. The Intro-Interns will perform meaningful work and guidance will be provided using SRR processes and procedures. They will become familiar with the company mission and gain familiarity to help them be competitive for the full-summer internships in future years when they are further along in their major classes.
This assignment will support SRR’s Accounting and Finance Department by performing employee floor check interviews and analyzing the results to determine if employees understand the labor charging policies. To accomplish this focus, the intern will interview SRR employees asking a series of questions related to timekeeping and labor charging practices/policies. The intern will then compile their interview results. The employee interviews shall be completed within a eight (8) week time frame. The Intro-Interns will be exposed to many different job activities and learn about the different facilities and work scopes through their interactions with the employees. Each intern must have a vehicle for getting to work and traveling to various locations on Site to conduct the interviews (carpooling is not acceptable.)
The internship will run for a set 8 week period from June 3rd, 2019 until mid-July, 2019. Housing is not provided but reasonable rentals are available through the University of South Carolina-Aiken student housing office.
A 40-hour work week is set and scheduled by the individual departments. SRS utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hours/day; five days per week), 4/10s (10 hours/day; four days per week), etc. Each work day has a 30-minute lunch. Interns will be paid a competitive hourly rate; no summer interns will be assigned to shift work; overtime is not available; Interns will be paid for site holidays (Memorial Day, July 4) as applicable.
Assignments will be located in SRR facilities on the 300sq mile DOE site outside of Aiken SC. Public transportation is not available and interns will be required to arrange their own transportation. A valid Driver’s License, Registration and proof of automobile insurance is required for driving on the Savannah River Site.
If you are selected to participate in the SRR Intro-Intern program, additional information will be requested such as: SRR employment application, references and official transcripts. You will be assigned to SRS General Employee Training and Drug and Alcohol test appointments before badging and commencement of assignment.
Resumes should be submitted as early as possible and will be reviewed by the selection panel for decisions by late-April early May.
