Job Description

AECOM is seeking a TMC Specialist to be based in Atlanta, GA.

Transportation Management Center (TMC) Specialists provide support and backup to TMC Operators to supplement necessary functions, to address short term needs, and to achieve optimal performance.

TMC Specialists perform event /incident analysis and provide solutions for congestion. TMC Specialists are responsible for using Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) software to monitor Department roadways and manage events; develop and deploy Dynamic Message Sign (DMS) messages in response to roadway events; and conducting express lane reversals. TMC Specialists shall analyze data; communicate, coordinate, and collaborate with other TMC staff, Department personnel, and partner agencies; and assist staff in the execution of traffic management plans (TMP) for emergency or high-level events.

The routine responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Review confirmed posted incidents and if necessary, modify or create DMS messages.

  • TMC Specialists will place appropriate messages on the 511ga.org website and 511 Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system.

  • Prepare text and record spoken messages on the 511 IVR system for all types of events as needed.

  • Where construction projects are planned, prepare necessary DMS messages, and update DMS messages as needed to include alternate routes and expected delay times as appropriate.

  • For major events and weather events, prepare appropriate messaged for DMSs and update messaging as needed to include alternate routes and expected delay times as appropriate.

  • Continually monitor traffic conditions statewide and anticipate problem areas. Devise methods to alleviate congestion, post appropriate messages to DMSs, identify congestion countermeasures that can be put into place.

  • Support emergency operations such as severe weather events.

  • Perform all aspects of express lane reversal operations.

  • Adhere to TM Operations Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Standard Operating Guidelines (SOG), and Manuals.

  • Ensure all Traffic Interruption Reports (TIR) for construction events contain accurate information and are entered, monitored, and closed in a timely manner.

  • Support special events that generate high concentrated traffic such as, but not limited to, sporting events, political rallies, religious gatherings, etc.

  • Capable of performing all TMC Operator duties.

  • Monitor ramp meter operation and make changes to timing plans based on observed operation and current traffic conditions.

  • Undertake periodic recurrent training and performance evaluation testing.

  • Support requests from management to analyze traffic data and assist with the development of performance measures under guidance.

  • Other ad-hoc initiatives as assigned by the Project Management Team.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • HS and 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check.

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.

  • Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in an office environment. Position requires often performing keyboard/mouse operations and standing or sitting for long periods of time; occasionally standing/walking; rarely climbing stairs. Position may include wearing a dispatch headset, viewing CCTV camera displays, and listening to law enforcement radio broadcasts.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in Call center, customer service, 911 Operator or dispatching preferred.

  • Data Entry Skills.

  • Knowledge of State Routes and Interstates throughout the State.

  • This is NOT a remote position, but located on the client site locations.

  • Opportunities for overtime hours and pay are also available.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $22.50/hour.
