Our Transport team in Auckland is looking for an Associate Director – Design Manager to lead high-profile, multidisciplinary projects. This is a fantastic opportunity to take on a technical leadership role, grow client relationships, and contribute to winning new work through strategic bids.

The Role
As a Design Lead, you’ll lead the design delivery of major projects across New Zealand. You’ll coordinate multidisciplinary teams, oversee technical quality, and support the Project Manager in ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget. A key part of the role is managing stakeholder relationships and ensuring robust engineering outcomes.
What will a day in this role look like:
Lead and manage engineering and design teams
Oversee resourcing for specialist inputs and ensure timely delivery
Coordinate utilities, drawings, mapping, and cost estimation
Verify engineering processes and outputs
Monitor scope, budget, and timelines
Collaborate with technical leads and the wider project team
Proactively manage risk and report to the Lead Engineering Advisor
Run weekly engineering team meetings
Capture and report lessons learned
Contribute to client relationship building, bid development, and team strategy
Beyond project delivery, you’ll have opportunities to support business growth through client engagement, bid development, and shaping short- and long-term strategies for the transport team
Qualifications

What are we looking for from you?
Proven minimum 10 years’ experience
Ability to manage resources across multiple work streams.
Experience delivering projects with a high level of public visibility and interest.
Experience bringing together a cohesive team on complex projects
Strong understanding of the business case and integrated Transport Assessment processes, and approvals processes
Civil Engineering degree
CPEng Preferable
