Job Description

What your new role will entail;

The Health and Safety Manager role, works in collaboration with a Wellbeing Lead and Principal Designer Lead, contributing to one of the UK's largest energy upgrade projects. Within the AECOM Arup joint venture, this role is tasked with safeguarding the health and safety of all project workers and those affected by our activities, providing design, consultancy, and pre-construction survey services over a vast area for an 8-year program.

This will include everything from a H&S perspective from pre-construction, GI to Environmental work. Taking an industry first approach on imminent and future projects and running between 5-10 major projects over the next 5 years

Role Scope:

Safety Champion: Act as a prominent advocate for health (including wellbeing), safety, and the environment, fostering continuous improvement and innovation to cultivate a mature safety culture.

Client Engagement: Engage with the Client as stipulated by contract health and safety requirements.

SH&E Promotion: Support the creation and execution of behavioural safety campaigns, track results, and evaluate program effectiveness.

SH&E Advice, Support & Guidance: Offer expert health, safety, and environmental counsel, assistance, and direction to project and partnership personnel.

One HS&W Team: Collaborate with colleagues and managers to form a cohesive team that respects, supports, and works together towards common goals.

Management Systems Implementation: Partner with Lot 1 & Lot 2 contractors to establish, apply, and enhance health and safety protocols, systems, and procedures.

Project / Operational Meetings: Participate in, contribute to, and represent AECOM Arup on health and safety matters in project meetings.

Reporting: Generate reports for all managed works and projects to convey status, performance, and improvements.

Healthy Starts: Aid in reviewing and refining health and safety project deliverables to guarantee successful project initiation and progress.

Assurance: Guarantee adherence to and effectiveness of the assurance programme across all projects.

Accident Review, Management & Investigations: Conduct thorough investigations of all incidents and accidents, ensuring adherence to AECOM, Arup, and client systems. Ensure investigations are conducted at the appropriate level, with corrective actions identified and preventive lessons integrated into the project.

Wellbeing: Promote employee wellbeing through various initiatives and active engagement.

Mentor / Support Junior Staff: Provide mentorship, advice, and support to junior health and safety, and project delivery staff to facilitate their development.

You will be joining a long-established, high-performing team in the delivery of the full range of consultancy services to strategic clients nationwide. You’ll be a key member of the SH&E Leadership Team, to drive growth and delivery with an industry leading approach in the provision of Health & Safety services.

The role reports into the EWE SH&E Director, UK&I and future career progression opportunities into Director level positions.

Areas of immediate focus surround high profile energy infrastructure projects, working collaboratively with the Principal Design, Well-Being Lead and Leadership teams, from pre-construction, GI's and environmental work and beyond.

Qualifications

Are you right for this role?

To qualify for this role, you should:

• Have vast experience of health and safety experience, including experience in leading major energy, construction, or pre-construction projects as a Health and Safety Manager for a principal contractor or consultant.

• Hold chartered IOSH membership or an equivalent credential, along with formal health and safety qualifications, complemented by relevant sector-specific training.

• Be an excellent communicator across written, verbal, and visual mediums.

• Collaborate effectively within a team and be capable of making clear, concise, and well-considered decisions independently.

• Naturally adhere to AECOM Arup's equity, diversity, and inclusion policies.
