Job Description

Supporting our growing Water division, you will perform specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer including:

  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.

  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.

  • Provides guidance to entry level engineers.

  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.

  • Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.

  • Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.

  • Independently work to provide EI&C engineering tasks for municipal projects to clients based in Western Canada especially for Metro Vancouver type of work.

  • Design and develop contract specifications, studies and reports for electrical power and distribution systems, grounding, lighting, cable tray system, cable feeder sizing, soft-start and variable speed drives, standby power, and low voltage systems (fire alarm, telecommunications and security systems) focused on building systems applications.

  • Capable to develop single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, equipment layout and elevation drawings, P&IDs, grounding layouts, motor schematics and wiring diagrams, instrument loop diagrams, equipment interconnection wiring diagrams, AC/DC schematics, cable schedules, cable tray layouts, area classification drawings, fire alarm riser and layout, control panel layouts, specifications, cost estimates, lighting layouts and other building systems without supervision.

  • Design and specify process instrumentation and control devices for various processes including water/wastewater treatment and industrial applications.

  • Provide electrical discipline leadership on small to mid-scale water and wastewater projects under minimal supervision to ensure that engineering and design deliverables comply with applicable regulations, standards and sounds engineering practices.

  • Take direction from Projects’ Managers, Leads and Process Engineers, and work closely with other discipline Designers and Engineers as a key team player for coordination and liaison of project deliverables under minimal supervision.

  • Strictly adhere to AECOM's project design and specification standards, including capability of learning and adopting clients' standard and requirements as required.

  • Ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of technical aspect on project documentation produced in accordance with AECOM QA/QC procedures and with the clients' standards and expectation.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

  • University Degree in Electrical Engineering, from an accredited post-secondary institution;

  • Minimum 5 years related industry and engineering design experience in a multi-disciplinary electrical, power and/or instrumentation & control environment;

  • Registered Professional in Canada (EGBC preferred) or eligibility to quickly obtain EGBC registration with registration in another Canadian jurisdiction;

  • Applicable experience in electrical related design and commissioning, preferably encompassing electrical distribution systems and DCS or PLC control systems, variable speed drives, and instrumentation & control systems for municipal or light industrial environment;

Preferred qualifications:

  • Familiar with the Canadian Electrical Code, NFPA (National Fire Protection Association, Canadian Building Code), IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), other recognised standards such as CEC, IEEE, NFPA, NEMA, NESC, ANSI, ATS, ISA, IESNA and experience in building (fire alarm and communication) systems;

  • Proven track record in design and production of tender documents such as P&IDs, single line diagrams, control and communication system diagrams, electrical and instrument location drawings, loop & schematic wiring diagrams; developing equipment load schedules, cable & tray calculations, instrumentation list and specifications sheets, standard details; contract specifications, electrical studies and reports;

  • Perform electrical system studies and calculations. Proficient in use of AutoCAD and/or other design tools (AutoCAD P&IDs/Electrical, REVIT MEP) will be a desirable asset.

  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail;

  • Experience with Metro Vancouver engineering standards is a strong asset.

  • Excellent English written and oral communications skills; proven interpersonal skills, self-motivated, results oriented, ability to work independently and be flexible to perform work under tight schedules in a fast paced integrated multi-disciplinary team environment

Additional Information

Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $80,000.00 - $140,000.00.
