Job Description

AECOM is looking for a Hydrogeologist to join its team in Calgary, AB. This is a Full-time role.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work within a team of engineers, hydrogeologists, geologists, geochemists, groundwater modellers and agrologists on a wide variety of projects.

  • Working on hydrogeological projects across Canada including contaminated sites, remediation, hydrogeologic characterization for water supply assessment, water supply development, and hydrogeological characterization for mine development, operations and closure.

  • Design and execute hydrogeological investigations including ground disturbance planning, drilling, and logging of soil and rock core, sampling of soil, rock, groundwater and vapour, borehole instrumentation, monitoring well design and installation, and aquifer testing.

  • Lead contaminant hydrogeology assessments, including development of conceptual site models, determination of hydrostratigraphic properties and groundwater flow directions, and assessing contaminant fate and transport in the context of source-receptor pathway analysis.

  • Contribute to the development of problem formulation for site-specific risk assessments.

  • Act as report originator on hydrogeological and related technical reports. Candidate may also act as intermediate reviewer of reporting conducted by junior staff.

  • Providing ongoing mentorship to junior staff both in field and office.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

  • B.Sc. in Hydrogeology, Geology, or related engineering discipline with a focus in groundwater and hydrogeology and a minimum of 4 years of experience in environmental consulting or related experience.

  • Registered as a Professional Geoscientist or Engineer with APEGA, or eligible for registration.

  • A valid class 5 driver’s license with no restrictions.

Preferred qualifications:

  • M.Sc. in Hydrogeology or combination of related engineering discipline with related work experience.

  • Experience using industry standard software for determination of aquifer properties (e.g. AQTESOLV), manipulation of geospatial data (e.g. ArcGIS, Surfer, etc.) and databases (e.g. EQuIS).

  • Ability to work independently and within a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Working knowledge of relevant provincial, federal, and municipal acts and regulations.

  • Exposure to and working knowledge of geostatistical methods and conceptual modelling software such as Earth Volumetric Studio and Leapfrog.

  • Exposure to and working knowledge of numerical modelling concepts and contaminant fate and migration.

  • Willingness to complete field investigations, travel, and periodically adjust personal schedules to meet project needs. Anticipated split is 60% office and 40% field.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $70,000.00 - $95,000.00.
