Job Description

The role of a Senior Estimator will be taking responsibility for leading best practice estimation, often with respect to large and complex infrastructure commissions covering both private and public sector clients. Your role will be to ensure that client objectives are met through the delivery of a value-added estimation service.

You'll play a vital role in delivering Estimations for our clients. The role will require the successful individual to be confident in liaising with and presenting to both clients and contractors. An attention to detail is essential, but with an ability to position commercial context around the detail that enables our clients to make wider, impactful business decisions is just as important.

The role will cover all aspects of the estimation process throughout the project from feasibility through to construction estimates and involve alignment with wider commercial functions such as assurance and intelligence.

The Commercial and estimation team is located across Canada, providing Estimation Services across the Municipal Water sector.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Possesses proven knowledge in commercial strategies.

  • Participates in negotiations when requested and appropriate.

  • Responsible for staffing decisions to meet project objectives and seeks appropriate talent through prescribed Company processes and procedures.

  • Addresses and/or documents employee performance issues and takes lead role in resolution.

  • Willing to assume mentoring and training role and works within Company guidelines to establish appropriate department programs to support the process.

  • Serves when called upon as a key participant in client and/or subcontractor negotiations.

  • Prepares and maintains an accurate budget and insures that all project participants are aware of their budget.

  • Expert understanding of schedule critical path analysis, resource loading and leveling.

  • Assists the Project Manager in the management of funds and funds reporting.

  • Assists appropriate management in budgeting and managing incentive programs.

  • Oversees administrative aspects of the project change management program.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • 12+ years of Estimating experience on large industrial construction projects

  • A degree qualification in a relevant discipline.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Mining & Industrial estimating experience is considered an asset.

  • Experience of undertaking estimation as part of integrated, multi-organisation, collaborative teams.

  • Good working knowledge of standard construction contracts and associated documents.

  • Experience of working as part of a commercial process and delivery.

  • Professional memberships are an advantage but are not essential.

  • Proficient with estimating software, expert in Excel

  • Be aware of and develop marketing opportunities and where appropriate bring to the attention of Directors and the Business Development Department, in order that they may assist in following up potential leads enabling the development of new business

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a sector for estimation (mining, energy, water, rail etc) would be highly desired.

  • Experience in delivering cost and commercial activities.

  • Ability to work autonomously and in fast-paced environment, and able to adapt and meet challenges as they develop during the delivery stage

  • Strong interpersonal skills will be required to communicate with a variety of stakeholders with varying levels of seniority and engagement.

  • Achieve the highest standards of professional competence and to demonstrate this ability in all dealings with clients and professional contacts, reinforcing the profile of the company.

  • Drive performance standards and technical excellence through expert communication and effective use of the performance management process and AECOM technical practice networks.

  • Maintain and develop good relationships with clients, take every opportunity to uphold and increase the profile of the firm as a provider of professional, premium quality services to the construction industry.

  • Actively support the internal team and manage more junior staff on technically complex projects.

Additional Information

Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $125,000.00 - $185,000.00.
