Job Description

  • To lead the Dams and Hydropower Sector in delivering engineering projects and ensuring sustainable business growth.

  • Provides strong technical leadership and is considered to be a competent professional in their field.

  • Act as a Project Manager /Director on medium to large-sized projects

  • Responsible for financial management of projects in the sector

  • Work collaboratively at both an internal and external, client-facing level, developing new client relationships and maintaining existing networks within the business.

  • Ensure all quality assurance processes are followed, delivering on time and within budget for design projects.

  • Support the business development and selling initiatives to expand work assignments, including managing client relationships and expectations.

  • Prepare proposals and participate in the development of bids and technical write-ups for proposals

  • Guide and mentor junior engineers and designers, contributing to the growth of our talent pipeline.

Main duties

  • Business Management:

  • P&L management of Dams and Hydropower

  • Sector forecasting of revenue and expenditure

  • Budget planning

  • Management of project invoicing

  • Management of accounts receivable

  • Strategic planning.

Team Management:

  • Responsible to manage and lead the Dams and Hydropower team

  • Personnel performance management

  • Develop and ensure good team morale and spirit

  • Utilization forecasting and team management

  • Personnel skill assessment and development.

Project Management:

  • Successful completion of projects

  • Quality management according to the company procedures

  • Mentoring and guidance of project managers in a project director role.

Business development:

  • Engagement of potential and existing clients on future projects both locally in the African market and supporting our Global business with pursuits.

  • Business Opportunity management

  • Opportunity risk assessment

  • Proposal management

  • Sourcing of partners for opportunities.

Bid cost estimation Engineering:

  • Mentoring of project team

  • Approval and sign-off of design

  • Review of design/study reports.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 15 years’ experience in dams/hydropower and general water engineering

  • Fluent in English (ability to speak/write French will be an added benefit)

  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex projects and meeting delivery requirements.

  • Management experience of teams of 10 people or more.

  • Ability to and interest in guiding and mentoring junior engineers and designers, contributing to the growth of our talent pipeline

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in civil/mechanical engineering (Master’s degree will be preferred)

  • Professionally Registered with ECSA or relevant professional body

  • Registration as an Approved Professional Person (South Africa) or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters in Civil Engineering or related field

  • Registration as an Approved Professional Person (South Africa) or equivalent

  • International experience in dam and hydropower projects

  • Proven track record in business development and client relationship management

  • Experience with environmental impact assessments for large-scale water projects

  • Proficiency in project management software and tools

  • Knowledge of renewable energy integration with hydropower systems

  • Familiarity with dam safety regulations and risk assessment methodologies

  • Publications or presentations at international conferences related to dams and hydropower
