Job Summary

As a Senior Technician you will;Be part of a large established, experienced and growing team, based in AECOM’s multidisciplinary Chelmsford office. You will have the opportunity to progress your career through working on a diverse range of significant development infrastructure projects (across all stages of development), for a range of Clients. You will also have the opportunity to be part of a proactive learning environment within a wider national community of infrastructure engineers.

In summary you will:

  • Be proficient in undertaking design or elements of design, using relevant design software.

  • Understand relevant first principles of design to be able to critically evaluate software outputs.

  • Be interested and proactive in coordinated 3D design, working in collaborative design environments, and the application of BIM.

  • Be willing to mentor and develop others as well as taking a keen interest in technological developments in the design process.

Job Duties:

  • Undertake aspects of civil infrastructure design with minimal supervision, using appropriate design software.

  • Be able to understand, review and communicate software outputs based on a sound knowledge of relevant first principles.

  • Play an active part in the project assurance process, including taking part in technical reviews.

  • Provide a right first time, client focused service which results in on-going satisfaction and repeat business.

  • Build effective relationships within teams.

  • Work in an organised way to appropriate corporate standards.

  • Take a proactive approach to developing your own skills and those of others, contributing to moving the digital design agenda forward.

  • Provide guidance and mentoring to apprentice technicians and others.

  • Performs work in accordance with agreed budget and schedule with appropriate supervision

  • Demonstrate initiative and propose approach to solve new problems encountered.

Specific Skills Required:

Without being prescriptive we are seeking a blend of skills from the following list, with the understanding experience levels in specific technical areas may vary.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).

  • Demonstrable proactive approach to continuing professional development.

  • Familiarity with relevant design software including, Infraworks, Civils 3D, Microdrainage and related proprietary design software.

  • Demonstrable awareness and understanding of BIM and coordinated 3D design as well as current technological advances in the design process.

  • A blend of design experience in some or all of the following: design of highways, access roads, junctions, roundabouts and infrastructure of development projects (including road geometry, vehicle tracking, public realm, earthworks, pavements, drainage and underground services).

  • An understanding of the corresponding relevant first principles and design standards for example: MCHW, DMRB, MfS and local authority design guidance.

  • A knowledge of drainage design from first principles, including piped systems, SuDS based systems and familiarity with storage design and computer programs such as MicroDrainage.

  • A knowledge of the requirements of the Construction Design and Management Regulations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Relevant experience.

  • Ideally experience in the design and preparation of contract drawings and specifications for Tenders and Section 38 and 278 Agreements for highway works, 104 and 106 Agreements for sewers and utilities works.

Preferred Qualifications

  • HNC plus relevant experience
