AECOM’s Infrastructure team comprises of civil engineering specialists within our Building Engineering Business Line. We deliver creative infrastructure solutions for building projects for industry, government, commercial and leisure sectors by providing input to projects ranging from the largest regeneration projects in the UK to smaller housing and commercial developments. We work for both private and public sector clients, most of whom return to us for our experience of the industry and knowledge of their requirements.
We work across all construction stages, from pre-feasibility through feasibility, design and construction and across a wide range of sectors including - Housing Developments, Retail & Commercial, Airports and Education. Our work includes:
Engagement in masterplan development
Contributions to Transport Assessments and EIA process
Preparation of surface water drainage strategies and flood risk assessments
Preparation of foul water drainage strategies and utility appraisals
Site levels design and cut/fill analysis to optimise use of materials on site
Feasibility and highway route studies
Traffic management planning
Pavement analysis and design
Drainage analysis and design
Utility layout and diversion design
Streetscape (street lighting, fencing, traffic signals and traffic sign) design
Coordination of designs with the project team in 3d as part of BIM
Liaising with authorities to secure approval for the designs
Contract Administration and Supervision
We are currently seeking exceptional candidates for a Civil Engineering Technician Apprentice role within our Chesterfield office. This is a wonderful opportunity to join our growing design team receiving ‘on the job training’ working on a wide range of civil engineering projects across the region and beyond whilst being allocated a senior engineer or senior technician who will provide mentoring during the development period.
Successful applicants will continually develop their skills in civil engineering with the aim of becoming a world class civil engineering engineer and will be supported at college (usually one day per week at a recognised provider) in order to hone technical skills (ensuring real opportunities for personal growth and career progression). We also run a variety of in-house training sessions.
Production of CAD (Computer Aided Design) drawings
Preparation of simple civil engineering calculations
Supporting the administration of projects, including maintaining records
Assisting with data review and analysis
Ensuring outputs are accurate and meet the required standards
Meeting agreed deadlines
Working as a member of a team
Contributing to providing solutions to problems
Our Structured Training Excellence Programme is designed to recruit school-leavers who show commitment, aptitude and enthusiasm, into science, engineering and technology careers with us. You will combine work-based on-the-job training and learning with further studies and must be willing to progress your career. After an initial probationary period you must be willing to undertake a day release course at a Further Education College to study a relevant qualification in Civil and Infrastructure Engineering which would be funded by AECOM
No experience is necessary but the position is ideally suited to school leavers at A/AS level standard (or equivalent) who can demonstrate:
Minimum of 3 GCSE Levels at grade ‘C’ or above, including Mathematics, English and Science, and/or either; Completed first year of BTEC National Diploma or AS or A levels - preferably STEM subjects
Show an aptitude towards software-based engineering and drawing e.g. Computer Aided Design (CAD) and other similar 3D software.
Demonstrate an interest in and a desire to pursue a career specifically within Civil Engineering.
Commitment to continued education and improvement through on-the-job learning and training opportunities.
Creative, practical, adaptable and enthusiastic.
Ability to demonstrate attention to detail.
Ability to think in a methodical way to design, plan and organise parts of projects.
English language proficient, holding excellent communication skills to present information in speech, drawings and reports.
Applicants must be willing to progress their career by undertaking a day release course at a Further Education college to study a relevant course in Civil and Infrastructure Engineering. Your study will be funded and you will earn an income as a permanent employee of AECOM. Subsequently the expectation is that you would go on to achieve relevant professional qualifications as part of your career development .
