Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Geotechnical Engineer for immediate employment in the Chicago, Illinois office. The successful candidate will have a degree in civil engineering with specialization in geotechnical engineering. This position will have a hybrid work arrangement (both onsite and remote work) under AECOM’s Freedom to Grow program. The candidate will be expected to work on site at our Chicago, Illinois office at least three days per week, so relocation to the Chicago area is required.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparation of investigation work plans and assist in the procurement of subcontract drilling and laboratory testing services.

  • Performing site reconnaissance visits.

  • Supervising field drilling operations with tasks including directing subcontractors, logging soils and rock, and performing groundwater monitoring.

  • Performing on-site construction quality assurance and inspections.

  • Reviewing laboratory data and developing design parameters of the soils and rock.

  • Creating field and typed boring logs and boring location maps.

  • Performing a wide range of geotechnical analyses including foundation bearing capacity, settlement, and slope stability analyses.

  • Performing geotechnical and structural design for a wide range of project elements including retaining walls, sheet pile bulkheads, dams, slope stabilization, and bridge foundations.

  • Drafting geotechnical reports for review by senior technical staff.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and 2 years of progressive geotechnical engineering experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Must have taken and passed the Engineer In Training Exam in the State of Illinois and/or other states with the ability to obtain an Illinois EIT within 6 months.

  • Valid Driver's license as this position may be subject to a pre-employment Motor Vehicle Record Screening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Civil Engineering with thesis and/or advanced coursework in geotechnical engineering topics.

  • Must have experience using geotechnical engineering software, including slope stability analysis (SLOPE/W or similar), pile design software (LPILE, GROUP and APILE), and settlement analysis software (such as Settle3D).

  • Must have proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Must have experience using AutoCAD and/or Civil3D for civil engineering-related projects.

  • Experience using Bentley Microstation.

  • Experience using Bentley gINT software.

  • Willingness to travel (20% required), complete fieldwork, and work extended hours, when necessary.

  • Commitment to working efficiently to complete tasks within allotted schedule constraints.

  • Ability to work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff and subcontractors.

  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong technical writing skills

  • Flexibility to work on multiple diverse projects concurrently

Additional Information

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $73,000.00 - $85,000.00.
