Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Senior Grid Modernization Project Manager with a passion for driving results to join our high-performing energy practice team. In this role, the senior project manager will plan, direct, and execute on moderate to large sized projects centered around the accelerating energy transformation. They will manage and lead project teams to delivery technical excellence, financial performance, and client satisfaction using structured processes and tools.

The successful candidate:

  • Possesses working knowledge of transmission and distribution (T&D) systems and electric utilities in California.

  • Has experience overseeing design, permitting, and construction of underground and overhead power distribution infrastructure.

  • Familiar with substation design and construction requirements and best practices

  • Familiar with regulated utility frameworks

  • Expected to be an accountable self-starter and result-oriented individual with strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, collaboration and leadership skills and the ability to communicate his or her vision and coordinate with technical staff and other team members to achieve project goals.

  • Experienced in checking completed technical work for adequacy of design and documentation.

  • Experienced in working with a diverse team of professionals at all levels including, but not limited to: project managers, construction managers, project controls professionals, estimating, public outreach, procurement professionals, environmental professionals, consultants, owners engineers, safety professionals, risk management, client leaders and executives, etc.

  • Has ability to effectively communicate expectations and requirements with both clients and team members

  • Is able to assist with recruitment, mentoring and training of staff and team members

  • Can perform other department and/or program duties as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS in Engineering or related technical field.

  • 8 years of relevant experience, including project management, engineering or oversight of underground or overhead distribution or transmission line construction.

  • Demonstrated experience delivering work on fast paced projects and/or programs with high quality on schedule and within scope and budget

  • Experience with regional and national utilities, independent system operators (ISOs) and regulatory agencies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with project management, design or construction of new or upgraded distribution lines, transmission lines and substations, voltage levels from 12kV to 500kV.

  • Knowledge of power distribution equipment and construction means and methods

  • Proficient with survey, base mapping, geographic information systems (GIS) and LiDAR

  • Located in California or willing to relocate

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.)

  • Project Management Professional (PMP)

  • Master’s degree in technical discipline

  • Experience with GO128, GO95 and/or NESC

  • Experience with providing Quality Assurance/Quality Control reviews

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $122,820.39 - $175,019.06.
