Job Description

AECOM is seeking a motivated, technically experienced, Senior Plumbing Designer to join our dynamic team based in Chicago, IL.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in plumbing systems design, including domestic water, sanitary, and storm drainage systems, and demonstrate expertise in applying industry standards and codes. This role involves leading complex projects, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and oversee the development of plumbing systems for commercial, residential, and industrial projects.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, such as the International Plumbing Code (IPC), Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), and relevant local regulations.

  • Conduct system calculations, including water demand, pipe sizing, and fixture selection.

  • Develop and review construction documents, specifications, and submittals.

  • Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, and other disciplines to ensure seamless integration of plumbing systems.

  • Lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.

  • Stay updated on advancements in plumbing technology, sustainability practices, and code changes.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field +8 years of experience in plumbing design, including construction oversight or relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Due to the nature of this work, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in design software including AutoCAD and Revit.

  • Proficiency in performing plumbing calculations.

  • Strong knowledge of plumbing codes and standards, including IPC, UPC, ASPE, and ASHRAE.

  • Experience with sustainable and water-efficient design practices, including LEED certification requirements.

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also being self-motivated and detail-oriented.

  • Competent in all conventional aspects of building engineering systems and conducts work in a professional manner while collaborating with other team members.

  • Experience with process piping systems design, including high-purity water systems, chemical waste systems, and industrial piping applications.

  • Experience scoping and drafting fees for plumbing components of interdisciplinary project work

  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

  • Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise

  • Experience in the following markets: Corporate Workplace and Commercial buildings, Federal Civilian and DoD, Healthcare, Mission Critical, Justice, and Higher Education projects.

  • Knowledge of Federal-specific design criteria, such as Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC)s

  • Ability to manage and work on multiple projects with other team members.

  • This will be a hybrid position; up to 2 days work from home.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $130,000.00 - $145,000.00.
