Job Description

AECOM is seeking for an SSP Trainer/Supervisor for employment in Colonial Heights, VA .

As this is a 24/7/365 operation center, schedules are dictated by operational need and stated in advance and will include on call duties. Schedules may vary and individuals selected will be required to successfully complete certification training.

The responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Flexible schedule (relates to a 24/7/365 operation).

  • Serve as Regional Safety Service Patroller (SSP) Subject Matter Expert.

  • Responsible for all aspects of the Safety Service Patrol: to include daily operations, personnel, equipment, planning, training, safety, and logistics.

  • Responds and coordinates incident management with other agencies on all major incidents during their shifts.

  • Work on continuous improvements for the regional SSP training and operations.

  • Oversee and assist in the regional training program of all SSP personnel in both the initial and annual certifications and recertifications, participate in the training and evaluation of SSP personnel to address deficiencies and assist the SSP Manager in developing training plans to enhance the skills of personnel.

  • Develop schedules for recurrent training.

  • Mentor the regional SSP Leads in leadership and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).

  • Conducts daily shift briefings.

  • Provide reports and updates to the SSP Manager of employee training status.

  • Provide SSP Operator mentoring, coaching and training as necessary.

  • Serve as a delegate to the SSP Manager.

  • Constantly monitor shift activity for the purpose of augmenting the SSP Manager or filling the role when an SSP Manager is unavailable.

  • Verification and monitor of unplanned incidents, construction, special events and any other issue impacting flow and/or motorist safety.

  • Assisting the SSP Manager in overseeing and special event coordination with implementation of traffic operations plans.

  • Adherence to training protocols and maintain up-to-date certifications.

  • Other ad-hoc activities as assigned by the regional management team.

  • Maintaining equipment, daily operations, safety, and logistics.

  • Field training of SSP Trainees and participation in remedial training efforts.

  • Assist in the development of SSP SOP’s and work instructions.

  • Support the SSP Trainee with their ongoing skills development.

  • Complete daily progress and status reports of SSP Trainees.

  • Supporting and certifying core competencies of the SSP Trainee.

  • Support Route coverage as needed.

  • Schedule, Track and Monitor all required training.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • High School and 2 or more years prior experience as Traffic Monitoring Patroller or other related experience.

  • Ability to drive, using an AECOM provided vehicle, patrolling and monitoring a segment of interstate roadway in an assigned region.

  • Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check; must also successfully complete Virginia Department of Transportation fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check (CHRC).

  • Possess a valid driver's license and a clean driving record in the last 3 years, including no suspension of license or single violation that the Motor Vehicle Department treats as worth 6 demerits.

  • Employees must also participate in monthly MVR monitoring program and maintain a satisfactory driving record as a condition of employment.

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and successfully participate in the program’s mandatory random drug screening process.

  • Working knowledge of AECOM SSP SOP’s and related SSP HR policies.

  • Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Basic computer skills including operating and developing PowerPoint presentations and audio/visual equipment.

  • Working knowledge of the AECOM SSP Vehicle fleet maintenance and equipment operations.

Work Environment/Physical requirements – Essential Functions

  • Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in outdoor environments with uneven terrain, variable outdoor conditions including heat, cold, moisture, dust, dryness, noise, and automotive-related chemicals (e.g., fuels, coolants, lubricants, etc.); position requires frequent operation of vehicles. Work around heavy, moving, dangerous equipment; often standing/walking. The essential functions of this job include the:

  • Ability to lift up to 85 pounds.

  • Ability to pull/drag a force gauge to produce 160 ft./lbs of force with a contact point of 36 inches off the ground.

  • Ability to lift a 40-pound tool bag.

  • Ability to perform repetitive bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and/or crouching and occasionally work with arms above shoulder level.

  • Ability to perform fine motor skills.

  • Ability to perform hand gripping/squeezing for hand tools and equipment (levers, jack handles, air compressor, jumper cables etc.).

  • Ability to occasionally work at heights less than 4ft.

  • Ability to climb stairs.

  • Ability to descend/ascend vehicle steps.

  • Please Note: This position is contingent upon successfully completing functional tests for each essential function identified for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in incident management, dispatch or transportation related field or a combination of education and practical experience in similar roles.

  • 4 or more years employed in the Virginia Safety Service Patrol Program.

  • 3 or more years working as an SSP Lead, SSP Regional Trainer, experience in traffic management or emergency services.

  • Experience in training, mentoring, and evaluating SSP Operators.

  • Leadership and training experience.

  • AECOM Advanced Leadership development courses.

  • National Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Certificate.

  • Experience in training related to traffic incident management or emergency services.

Certifications:

  • SSP Statewide Training Program (Virginia)

  • Red Cross Basic First Aid/CPR/AED

  • Tire Change

  • Fire Extinguisher

Additional Information

  • This position does not include sponsorship for United States work authorization.

  • This position does not include relocation benefits.

  • This is NOT a remote position but located on the client site locations.

  • Opportunities for overtime hours and pay are also available.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $28.00/hour - $32.00/hour.
