Position Title Aircraft Worker Hydraulics

Assembles, repairs, or reworks a variety of hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic and fluid operated components of aircraft systems which may be processed as individual units of production. Replaces pumps, valves, hoses and connections which are obviously defective. Makes adjustments during assembly to components which require determination of alignment, wear pattern or adjustment where critical tolerance is not a factor. Checks parts and mating surfaces for wear corrosion, scratches or other obvious defects and for conformance to dimensional tolerances. Scraps parts which exceed allowable wear thresholds. On re-workable parts, removes imperfections from seating and sealing surfaces, pretests parts and assemblies of components for leakage, and observes operability of moving parts. Assembles parts into components by shimming, honing, lap-wiring and re-cleaning or touch-up paint work as needed. As required, instructs military personnel, apprentices, and lower-grade workers in all phases of incumbent's assigned duties and responsibilities.

Responsibility : Supervisor provides oral or written instructions inclusive of work orders, priority listings, and applicable standards and specifications. Normally accomplishes work assignments utilizing own judgment and standard shop operating procedures with assistance available from supervisor and higher-grade mechanics. Work is subject to review in-progress and upon completion for adherence to instructions and work requirements.
Physical Efforts : Required to sit, stand, stretch, and work in cramped, tiring, uncomfortable position. Frequently handles components weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance, and occasionally over 35 pounds with assistance from another worker or weight handling equipment.
Working Conditions : Works inside. Danger of falling objects and slipping on oily floors. Considerable noise from test stand operation. Frequent contacts with hydraulic fluids, solvents and corrosion treatment solutions.

Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Legal Resident. Must have the ability to read and interpret technical orders, job specification manuals, blueprints, and schematic diagrams. Knowledge of trouble-shooting procedures designed to isolate malfunctions in aircraft pneudraulic systems. Must be able to use hand tools, jigs, fixtures, and special tools and instruments.
