Job Description

AECOM has a position available for a Discipline Department Manager to manage our growing and talented Electrical Engineering team within the US Energy Practice. For this role, AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices located in multiple locations across the United States.

AECOM's broad technical capabilities, global footprint and experience in executing large scale projects uniquely position us to advance our client’s most meaningful industrial and power projects. Our team provides a wide range of electrical engineering services across markets sectors including industrial facilities (mining, water treatment, Oil and Gas), thermal power generation (coal and natural gas), transmission (substations, OH/UG transmission systems, generator interconnections, interconnection strategy), power distribution (OH/UG power systems, substations, EV charging networks, microgrid design, etc.), renewables (Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Wind), and next generation energy (hydrogen, fuel cells, electrolyzers, etc.).

This position requires a strong understanding of electrical engineering design, equipment, system modeling, and construction processes. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to manage the electrical technical team and lead projects as discipline electrical lead in responsible charge.

The responsibilities of this role also include, but may not be limited to,the following:

  • Team supervision and leadership:

  • Support Director of Engineering in advancing the culture of technical excellence and accountability

  • Supervise and lead a team of electrical engineers through their individual and team technical development for greater utility to the organization and overall career satisfaction

  • Provide mentorship to other electrical engineers within the US Energy Practice and other remote teams

  • Lead improvements in project efficiencies by creating, updating, and implementing group specific standards/templates and researching and recommending software packages/plug-ins

  • Provide input to management on project resourcing and staff forecasting needs

  • Develop task and deliverable list with associated hours estimate and schedule to support business development activities

  • Actively support recruiting efforts

  • Support projects through complete life cycle including the feasibility phase, preliminary and detailed design, issue-for-bid, construction, start-up, and commissioning

  • Project participation:

  • Responsible for the electrical engineering design work on assigned projects; Function as the “Engineer of Record” on projects

  • Collaborate with multi-discipline technical leads to integrate electrical across the full spectrum of projects and client solutions

  • Function as technical electrical lead on assigned projects

  • Perform engineering calculations to support and direct construction deliverables (specifications, reports, drawings)

  • Generate construction and equipment specifications

  • Provide quality control reviews of work developed by others

  • Monitor your teams project progress to ensure quality, on-time and on-budget delivery of projects

  • Ensure that the technical and safety standards are maintained in all aspects of the design work

  • Participate in and present engineering and design work at client meetings including those requiring occasional travel

    Level specific responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and provides technical expertise for mid- large-size projects.

  • Leads technical client relationships and plays a major role in selling.

  • Leads discipline department efforts to grow technical expertise.

  • Leads technical business development work.

  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.

  • Approves and signs off on work.

  • Leader in one or more areas of technology.

  • Provides estimates for the engineering budget and schedule a to meet requirements on large, complex projects

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET accredited college or university

  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant electrical engineering experience within industrial and/or power facilities

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in team supervision

  • 7+ years as discipline technical lead on industrial or power generation projects

  • Physical design experience for industrial facilities

  • Demonstrated experience in participating complex, multi-discipline programs/projects and teams

  • Passion in developing talented technical teams

  • Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish.

  • Experience workshare with high value engineering centers

  • Field construction and commissioning experience

  • Successful experience working in remote and multi-discipline teams

  • Expert familiarity with industry codes and standards (NFPA, NEC, NESC, IEEE, etc.).

  • Expert familiarity of current building codes and standards

  • Power systems analysis software experience (ETAP, SKM, EasyPower)

  • Solar or BESS facility experience

  • Experience working in collaborative 3D model environments (e.g. Navisworks) and laser scan data

  • Active participation in industry or code committees

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $170,000.00 - $200,000.00.
