Job Description

AECOM is seeking a highly motivated Civil Engineer with a water resources background to be based in the Denver, Colorado office to support mining projects in the planning, design and construction phases.

Job Summary/Responsibilities

  • Performs specific portions of broader projects under the supervision of an experienced engineer

  • Work with existing and potential clients to provide long-term stormwater management solutions for mine waste facilities

  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and drainage/civil design

  • Prepare detailed calculation packages including proper documentation and references

  • Assist with the development of civil reports, drawings and specifications

  • Prepare reservoir and pond designs including geosynthetic lining, leak detection/collection systems, breach analysis, outlet works, and spillways

  • Design channels and energy dissipation structures that include concrete, riprap, articulated concrete block, fabric-formed concrete, and baffle blocks for erosion control

  • Coordinate with OSE, EPA, and other agencies for permit preparation

  • Work with CAD designers to produce construction-level drawings including grading, drainage and roadway plans, profiles, details, and sections

  • Perform work in accordance with an agreed upon scope, budget, and schedule

  • Generally, perform work in Denver office a minimum 3 days a week

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • EIT Certification

  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS Civil Engineering with Hydrology/Hydraulics emphasis

  • 4+ years or more of relevant experience

  • MSHA Miner training

  • Basic knowledge of industry software programs (e.g., HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and AutoCAD Civil 3D)

  • Field/Construction experience; tailings or dams experience a plus

  • Experience in stormwater evaluation and design (e.g., hydrologic analysis, hydraulic analysis, stormwater management design), construction monitoring and operations

  • Experience with frequency storm and probable maximum precipitation hydrologic analyses

  • Experience with hydraulic analyses and design of channels, culverts, bridges, flow measurement, and flood mapping

  • Familiarity with design reports, drawings and specifications

  • Excellent Verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrate proactive problem-solving skills

  • Ability to maintain organization in a changing environment

  • Exhibit initiative, responsibility and flexibility

  • Resourceful, highly organized, professional and detail oriented

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines

  • Effective time-management and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Additional Information

  • Relocation is not available for this position.

  • Sponsorship is not available for this role.

  • Willingness to travel to domestic locations for projects (up to 30%).

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $78,000.00 - $115,000.00.
