AECOM is seeking a highly motivated part time senior electrical engineer with an instrumentation & controls (I&C) background to be based in the Denver, Colorado, to support mining projects.

Job Description

An Electrical Engineer will be working as an integral part of the team to further developing skills for:

  • Provides leadership in the areas of Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) engineering and design, investigations and analysis on multi-disciplinary mining projects.

  • Serves as technical expert in I&C subcategory of Electrical Engineering and with an extensive background in heavy industrial infrastructure development.

  • Provides guiding direction and ultimate oversight of I&C engineering engagements.

  • Sets direction and goals for technology and/or business line.

  • External spokesperson on technical I&C engineering project scope items.

  • Leads the technology strategy for the instrumentation and control systems in the mining sector.

  • Technical point of contact for strategic clients within the mining sector.

  • As necessary, modifies established guidelines, devises new approaches, applies existing criteria in new ways and draws conclusions from comparative situations.

  • May provide technical guidance to a modest sized group of Electrical and / or I&C engineers, designers, and specialists.

  • Fully versed in the project change control process and can identify a potential change to the project scope.

  • Fully versed with and can check and review the work sequence, general content, and the methods used to generate applicable deliverables ranging from datasheets, specifications and / or drawings for the purchase of I&C required materials, components and / or systems.

  • Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Requires sufficient professional experience to assure competence as a fully trained worker.

  • Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for team

  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.

  • Develops and oversees the study and design work packages to facilitate high-quality cost-effective work that would be performed by other team members.

  • Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.

  • Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.

  • Performs quality control review of design calculations, datasheets, lists, specifications and / or drawings.

  • Prepares technical specification sections.

  • Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.

  • Ensure the required services meet project requirements on time and within budget.

  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment.

  • Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent engineering program from ABET accredited university.

  • 10+ years of experience in an electrical engineering, I&C or construction related industry or demonstrated equivalency of experience and or education

  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PE in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, or ability to acquire a PE.

  • The successful candidate will be working with colleagues spread among multiple satellite office locations, so ideal candidates will have:

  • Ability to communicate and telecommunicate professionally.

  • Adaptable to working with personnel from different geographic environments and cultures.

  • Proactive ‘can-do’ attitude towards working with colleagues.

  • On-site field experience in commissioning and start-ups for facilities

  • ​Strong Microsoft skills in Windows, Office 365, and SharePoint

  • Master’s in electrical engineering, I&C or related field of study

  • MSHA Miner training

  • Demonstrated progressive experience in I&C design, modeling, and construction documentation.

  • Progressive project experience including task leadership and project management roles on design and design-bid-build projects.

  • Ability to serve as primary point of contact with the client and develop client relationships.

  • Lead designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, construction specifications, and final working drawings.

  • Work with CAD designers to produce construction-level drawings.

  • Strong written and oral communication, quantitative and people skills

  • Strong work ethic and professional demeanor.

  • Initiative-taking on assignments and demonstrate initiative.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and complete multiple technical tasks under tight deadlines.

  • Estimate and scope electrical engineering projects.

  • Perform work in accordance with agreed upon scope, budget, and schedule.

  • Track and manage task budgets and schedules.

  • Author reports and prepare/or direct preparation of detailed calculation packages including proper documentation and references.

  • Must be resourceful, highly organized, professional with attention to detail and people.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $61.00/hour - $112.51/hour.
