Job Description

Our Buildings + Places (B+P) practice includes architecture, interiors, building and system engineering, urbanism and planning (inclusive of landscape architecture), strategy +, economics, technology solutions, asset advisory, and cost and program management. This diverse team assists our clients from strategy through project realization, creating positive outcomes for those who occupy and use the buildings and environments we help to create. Our Denver B+P studio focuses on the Commercial/Corporate, Science and Technology, Higher Education, and Federal market sectors. We look to combine beauty, sustainability, resiliency, equity, and innovation in our projects and believe these values can be instilled in any project regardless of size or budget.

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Landscape Architecture Intern for employment in the Denver, CO office as part of AECOM’s Urbanism + Planning (U+P) studio. The U+P studio is an integral component of the overall Buildings + Places practice and is focused on leading or supporting transformational urban scale projects. Internships are intended to introduce and build essential, hands-on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional. Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well-rounded learning experience within their field of study.

This position is expected to begin in summer, May or June of 2025.

The candidate should be efficient in production of design graphics, construction drawings, and design and planning related presentations and reports. The position provides exposure to all aspects and phases of the firm’s planning and landscape architectural practice, including communicating with internal and external clients. Candidates must have self-driven initiative and participatory team skills and shall be capable of functioning as team member in a studio environment with a team that has a diverse set of skills and experience. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing entry-level work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member on a variety of assignments designed to develop professional work knowledge and abilities, requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out tasks.

  • Following instructions to accomplish tasks assigned by senior staff and meeting required schedules while producing quality work.

  • Interns will work collaboratively as a team player with both junior staff and senior leadership to support the development of conceptual and schematic designs, construction details and documents, developing renderings, conducting research, and organizing and synthesizing information to address the opportunities and/or challenges posed by specific projects.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled and pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in Landscape Architecture (or a closely related field) in a LAAB accredited university program and must have completed at least two years of study . Candidates who have recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the master’s degree are eligible to apply for this position. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.

  • Must possess entry-level proficiency with CADD and graphic design software platforms such as AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and SketchUp.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A college or university student with no more than two academic years remaining before earning a degree.

  • Knowledge of design process, conceptual thinking and detailed design/construction document knowledge, well organized and attention to scheduling requirements, as well as a good understanding of time management.

  • Experience with one or more of the following software packages: Land F/X, Bentley MicroStation, BIM/Revit, Rhino, ArcGIS and other spatial analysis tools, and other 3D modeling and rendering software.

  • Ability to plan and organize multiple projects and work with other multi-discipline team members; effective time management is an inherent trait expected of all internship candidates.

  • Ability to think critically, analyze design problems, and write effectively.

  • Intellectual curiosity and a diversity of interests that inform your design perspective.

  • A strong focus on studio culture and collaboration is an important aspect of our practice. The candidate should be confident, and willing to work with all staff levels from Entry Level Landscape Architects through Practice Leaders.

  • Relocation is not available for this position.

  • The candidate will be expected to maintain regular office hours in the Denver, CO office and participate in company functions where appropriate; remote and/or hybrid work arrangements are not available for this position.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $22.00/hour - $28.00/hour.
