Job Description

AECOM has an opening for a Senior Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to support our growing Energy Practice. For this role, AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices located in multiple locations across the United States through our Freedom to Grow program .

Our team provides a wide range of I&C engineering services across markets sectors including Industrial Facilities (Oil and Gas, Mining, Water, Power Generation), power distribution (OH/UG power systems, substations, EV charging networks, microgrid design, etc.), renewables (Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Wind), Carbon Capture and Storage and next generation energy (hydrogen, fuel cells, RNG, etc.). We are looking for a leader with a I&C engineering background to promote our skills to new clients and maintain our existing client base.

The successful candidate will have an understanding and demonstrated experience in instrumentation and controls engineering and technology principles and is very familiar with the design and construction of industrial infrastructure. She/he will be expected to work successfully within a team environment and be able to communicate effectively with other project team members and customers. He/she will have a high level of initiative, motivation, and displays drive, energy and enthusiasm for getting things done.

The responsibilities of this role also include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Independently perform engineering analyses and design

  • Act as project instrumentation and controls engineering discipline lead in support of multi-discipline design projects from work scope development until the completion of construction

  • Provide mentorship to other engineers within the Energy Center of Excellence and other remote teams

  • Supporting the Chief Electrical and I&C engineer on developing workload forecasts, design schedules and budgets for electrical engineering work activities

  • Develops new and innovative solutions to production improvement opportunities that accomplish business objectives including improving safety, quality, or efficiency for our clients

  • Troubleshoot and recommend value engineering/cost-effective solutions to problems, including those that arise during design and construction phases.

  • Utilizing known code and safety requirements and leveraging best practices, generate project deliverables for all phases throughout the project life cycle (feasibility through detail design)

  • Assist with internal and external presentations

  • Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others

  • Occasional travel to client and/or project sites

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field

  • 6 years of relevant instrumentation and controls experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ Years of experience as an I&C Engineer associated with the design of industrial I&C systems with 4+ participating as discipline lead on projects

  • Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish.

  • Plant Startup and Commissioning Field Experience

  • Experience working in collaborative 3D model environments (e.g. Navisworks) and laser scan data

  • EIT certification and/or Professional Engineering licensure preferred

  • Expert knowledge in the design and specification for field devices (meters, temperature, pressure, flow, and analytical instrumentation and control valves)

  • Proficiency with control systems including PLC or DCS based systems including automation and programming

  • Familiarity with InTools and SmartPlant based systems

  • Familiarity with control systems for Solar or wind facilities including facilities with BESS systems.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $120,000.00 - $170,000.00.
