Job Description

AECOM is seeking an initiative-taking senior mechanical engineer with a mechanical engineering background to be based in the Denver, Colorado office, to support mining projects in the planning , design phases of projects and to help lead a team of mechanical engineers to support mining projects.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Senior technical resource to serve as technical advisor and reviewer for the team.

  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.

  • Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high-quality cost-effective work by others.

  • Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.

  • Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.

  • Uses expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of engineering design package.

  • Performs quality control review of design calculations, 3D models and drawings.

  • Prepares technical specification sections.

  • Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.

  • Performing mechanical pipe stress modeling using industry standard software programs in conformance with codes and standards as well as project requirements.

  • Conduct hydraulic computations and computer modeling and analysis of water distribution systems using industry standard software program.

  • Assembling calculation packages for the sizing of mechanical and process equipment such as pumps, tanks, piping systems, etc.

  • Developing reports in Microsoft Word to communicate the technical results of these calculations or design packages, including summaries, figures, tables, methodologies, and explanations.

  • Perform early project design work such as conceptual studies, process flow diagram development, P&IDs, mass balances, equipment sizing and selection, datasheets, and general facility layout/arrangements.

  • Assist in the development and oversight of design documents including equipment and piping layouts, pipeline alignment plan and profiles, materials specifications, equipment specifications and vendor data requirements.

  • Review of vendor shop drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards as well as project specific requirements.

  • Support the construction team by supporting the RFI process by coordinating with project team to track, status and close the RFI’s, providing requested information and creative design solutions.

  • Ensure the required services meet project requirements on time and within budget.

  • Development of equipment bid documents.

  • Perform detailed technical bid analyses for mechanical equipment such as pumps, tanks, valves, piping components and other mechanical and piping systems.

  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment.

  • Provides engineering guidance and oversight to staff level engineers and designers.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + 6 years of relevant experience and or demonstrated equivalency of education and or experience

  • PE Certification

  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications

  • PE in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, or the ability to acquire a PE.

  • On-site field experience in commissioning and start-ups for facilities

  • Master’s in mechanical engineering or related field of study

  • 8+ years or more of relevant industry experience

  • MSHA Miner training

  • Demonstrated progressive experience in mechanical engineering, pump and piping design, modeling, and construction documentation.

  • Progressive project experience including task leadership on design and design-bid-build projects.

  • Lead designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, construction specifications, and final working drawings.

  • Work with CAD designers to produce construction-level drawings.

  • Strong written and oral communication, quantitative and people skills

  • Strong work ethic and professional demeanor.

  • Initiative-taking on assignments and demonstrate initiative.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and complete multiple technical tasks under tight deadlines.

  • Estimate and scope mechanical engineering (pumps and piping) projects.

  • Perform work in accordance with agreed upon scope, budget, and schedule.

  • Track and manage task budgets and schedules.

  • Author reports and prepare/or direct preparation of detailed calculation packages including proper documentation and references.

  • Must be resourceful, highly organized, professional with attention to detail and people.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $100,000.00 - $140,000.00.
