Job Description
Job Summary
As a Technical Design Lead (TDL), you will lead and coordinate a team of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for all technical design disciplines to successfully deliver design services on Data Center projects. You will have overall responsibility for design project deliverables.
You will be the key point of contact with the AECOM Project Director, Project Manager (PM), SMEs and client counterparts, to advise on technical matters across all disciplines in line with client expectations on all aspects of project delivery including design scope, time, cost, and quality. You will lead development and implementation of optimal technical design solutions and collaborate with the AECOM PM to ensure successful project delivery.
The role will cover the whole project lifecycle, most notably the design phase but also initial inception, due diligence, permitting, procurement, construction and commissioning phases.
Job Duties
Brings technical multi-discipline experience to lead coordination across all internal and external design team disciplines and stakeholders.
Ensure design is delivered across all design disciplines – including sub-consultants where engaged - in line with project scope, programme, budgets, and quality to client expectations.
Managing design team compliance with design responsibilities per relevant H&S legislation and AECOM Safety in Design (SiD) methodologies.
Ensure design development and production (including BIM) is coordinated across all technical design disciplines.
Lead coordination of design with stakeholders as required for successful project delivery including third party vendors, local authorities, utility companies and contractors
Oversee preparation of design deliverables for permitting, procurement and construction.
Identifies and manages scope delineation across disciplines
Ensure all team members reporting to you have current and relevant training.
Collaborates with PM and other project team members to control change including early identification, mitigation, and assessment of changes with preparation and negotiation of variation orders.
Supporting the Project Manager with:
Invoicing on completed deliverables.
Preparing and updating the Master Design Delivery Programme to reflect any change and/or delay as they occur
Production of risk register, change management register, SiD workbook, RFI register, Deliverable Register, Action Trackers etc.
Exacting all technical Client requirements and deliverables and ensuring they’re produced within the approved budget.
Procurement of sub-consultants as required
Preparation of survey scope and procurement of surveys
Identification of risks with input and updates into the risk register
Design team compliance with AECOM’s Technical Quality Review (TQR) process
Informing project reporting and compliance with AECOM’s project Delivery System (PDS).
Approach to all projects requires a high degree of flexibility and creativity, excellent presentational skills, and an ability to communicate effectively with clients and consultants. The successful candidate shall be charged with the delivery of Design Management Services within our Client focused and highly motivated professional team.
Qualifications
The Senior Technical Design Lead (Data Centres) should have the following qualifcations:
Committed to safe and healthy project delivery through all project stages.
Committed to delivering high quality consulting services to our clients.
Degree Qualified – BSc or MSc – in and engineering, design management or construction related profession.
Professionally Qualified – ideally Chartered Engineer or other equivalent institution.
Experience of successfully delivering design on large, complex projects would be advantageous. Experience of successfully delivering design on data center projects is preferred.
Ability to manage design delivery of single large DC project or multiple medium DC projects simultaneously
10+ years proven experience in a consulting environment providing the full spectrum of design management services including chairing meetings, minuting and proactively engaging in discussions, progress reporting, procurement strategies and tender documentation, general post contract design management and administration, being aware of the scope of service and ensuring we deliver within the agreed parameters and mitigate / resolve disputes whenever possible
Proactively engaging with Client team, 3rd party vendors, contractor, local authorities, utility companies and other stakeholders.
Proven ability to advise clients and design teams on value, risks, and programme in a holistic way
Understanding standard forms of contract.
Accountable and responsible for own actions and those of your team.
Ability to work under own initiative where appropriate working closely with the Management Team in the delivery of some of our highest profile projects.
