AECOM Senior Engineer - Highways in Dublin, Ireland

Job Summary

Our Ireland Roads Team currently has a vacancy for a Senior Highways Engineer within our Dun Laoghaire office, close to the DART Station and all the amenities of this beautiful coastal town. Our modern office, with views over Dublin Bay, is set up for flexible working with the successful candidate provided with a lap-top and software that supports the individual’s work-life balance requirements.

We are looking to grow this team with individuals who have a sound technical background and business development capabilities.

The role will suit a self-motivated individual who is aspiring to take a lead role in project delivery and manage dynamic teams delivering high quality projects. The person will need to adopt a flexible approach and be able to work away from our Dun Laoghaire office for short duration to suit project needs.

The Dublin Roads team works both locally and across the UK & I market. Our current portfolio ofworks comprises a diverse mix of local, national and international highway and infrastructure improvements across significant delivery programmes for major Clients.

At an Ireland level the following are some of the current projects:

  • N3 M50 to Clonee, Fingal Co Co, Preliminary Design & EIA

  • N4 Mullingar to Roosky, Preliminary Design & EIA

  • M7 Naas to Newbridge & Salins Bypass, detailed design & site supervision

  • A6 Randalstown - Castledawson Dualling Scheme, Employers Agent

  • LDR4, Abbeyland on behalf of Meath County Council, Preliminary Design & EIA

  • N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge, Advance Works

  • York Street Interchange, Belfast

  • M50 EMOS project, Dublin (variable speed limits), Highways design

  • Kildare South Green, Detailed Design

Job responsibilities:

  • Coach, mentor, support, and provide day to day guidance and leadership for design team members – engineers, graduates, apprentices, and trainee technicians

  • Manage and develop both internal and external client relationships

  • Work under the direction of, and in support to, project directors and principal engineers to perform tasks in accordance with agreed budget and schedule with little supervision, possessing the ability to solve any problems encountered along with identifying discrepancies in results

  • Manage the workload and the technical management and oversight of a design team

  • Write and oversee the preparation of contract documents and technical reports as required

  • Deliver all specified project outcomes on time, within budget and to the quality required

  • Lead the provision of technical inputs, across a range of specialisms in the field of highway engineering

  • Show technical competence and through experience, gather and take on board the skills of others in computer based applications and tasks including use of software such as MX, WinDES, and the Microsoft Office Suite of programmes including MS Project.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant technical standards;

  • Undertake project activities in line with company policy, including technical and commercial aspects.

  • Identify and manage project risks.

  • Contribute to the development of technical proposals

  • Plan, lead and undertake site visits as required.

  • Plan and attend meetings – internal and external, as required.

  • Liaise and manage sub-consultants and external parties.

  • Participate as a team member on a number of levels, including office disciplines and projects.

  • Be proactive and contribute to a safer work environment along with personal, professional development

Minimum Requirements

  • A graduate in Civil Engineering or equivalent with experience in highway engineering design and project management

  • The ability to deal directly with clients and fill a key project co-ordination position within the wider team leading graduate engineers, technicians, and supporting disciplines to deliver successfully.

  • Experience of working collaboratively as part of a team developing a range of local, national, and international road schemes or similar major civil engineering projects

  • A highly motivated Engineer with excellent communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or similar (BSc, BEng, MEng, MSc)

  • Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartered status

  • Safe Pass

  • Full Drivers licence
