Job Description

The Candidate Process Engineer participates in all aspects of the Candidate Programme, gaining hands-on experience while assisting the Engineer and the broader team in developing design information. This role supports the transition from student to professional by building analytical, technical, business, and interpersonal skills.

As part of the team, the Candidate Process Engineer will assist the Lead Process Engineer in design development, from conceptualization to detailed design, with a focus on water and wastewater treatment plants, sludge/residual handling systems, and pump stations.

Technical Excellence:

  • Assists in the development of process design deliverables, including mass and energy balances, process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment specifications, and process calculations.

  • Assists with the design content by applying both design and technical knowledge to ensure high-quality outputs under project timelines.

  • Applies process engineering principles to ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable designs that align with project requirements and industry best practices.

  • Assists in the development and review of process safety studies, including HAZOPs, risk assessments, and operability reviews.

  • Under Supervision, performs work following the agreed-upon budget and schedule.

  • When required, collects and analyses information from specific discipline and interdisciplinary project BIM models.

  • Uses computer software as a tool for solving fundamental engineering problems.

  • Coordinates with other discipline Engineers as applicable for the continuity of the design process.

  • Checks and ensures the quality of model production by BIM/CAD teams for accuracy to design instructions.

  • Actively seeks information, opportunities to participate and contribute, and develops efficiencies and effectiveness.

  • Contributes by solving problems and applying experience or theoretical knowledge to atypical assignments

  • Supports the preparation of technical reports, design documentation, and feasibility studies.

  • Participates in project meetings, design reviews, and coordination sessions with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Engages in troubleshooting and optimization of existing process systems, contributing innovative solutions to engineering challenges.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • BEng/BSc in Chemical or Process Engineering.

  • 2-3 years of relevant experience in process engineering, preferably in the water, wastewater, petrochemical, or industrial sectors.

  • Registered as a Candidate Engineer with ECSA.
