Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Welder Apprentice 2nd year to be based in our IOL Kearl, Alberta location.

This is a camp job with 10/10 rotation.

This position will assist welders perform a wide range of tasks at construction sites.

This position will join or sever metals in beams, girders, vessels, piping and other metal components, make metal parts used in construction and manufacturing plants, and weld parts, tools, machines and equipment. Welders develop patterns for projects or follow directions given in layouts, blueprints and work orders, clean, check for defects and shape component parts, sometimes using a cutting torch and weld parts together.

May include the following responsibilities:

  • Join or sever metals in beams, girders, vessels, piping and other metal components

  • Make metal parts used in construction and manufacturing plants, and assist to weld parts, tools, machines and equipment

  • Assist welders in use of different welding processes and fillers depending upon the type of metal, its size and shape, and requirements for finished product strength.

  • Develop patterns for projects or follow directions given in layouts, blueprints and work orders; clean, check for defects and shape component parts, sometimes using a cutting torch weld parts together.

  • Assist welders in setting up equipment, preparing tools.

  • Any other task required by welders.

Conditions of Employment for this position are:

  1. For positions that fall into the list of required positions within the AECOM Oil & Gas Background Check policy, qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, the role must complete a satisfactory pre-employment Background Check. This may consist of all or a combination of the following: Canadian Criminal Record check, an Employment Verification and/or an Education and Accreditation Verification.

  2. Qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, a position must provide evidence of a satisfactory Alcohol & Drug test in accordance with the Company's Alcohol & Drug Policy. In order to be valid, the test must have been conducted at the direction of AECOM - O&G Business Unit.

Minimum Requirements

  • Knowledge of Welding

  • Must be registered in AIT's (Alberta Industry Training) Welding Apprenticeship Program or equivalent from another provincial trades governing body.

  • Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS - 09) Certification required

  • Valid Safety Tickets (Standard First Aid level C)

  • Valid Driver's license and clean driver's abstract is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous oilfield maintenance or facility construction experience considered an asset.
