Job Description

Aecom Kelowna is hiring a Senior Highway Engineer - Geotechnical.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide and/or supervise the delivery of professional geotechnical services, technical specifications, reports including criteria, intent, constructability, and staging for highway projects.

  • Serve as a fully capable professional and engineer of record with advance knowledge in developing design procedures to facilitate high quality and cost-effective geotechnical design solutions.

  • Lead the analysis, development, and implementation of geotechnical designs for complex, multi-modal and major highway projects.

  • Provide professional engineering and advisory services to clients, project teams and other partners.

  • Provide specifications for subsurface investigations including ground conditions, soil behaviours and profile.

  • Complete or lead geotechnical design deliverables through internal and external sources including designs, cost estimates, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic and working drawings.

  • Review the deliverables for accuracy, completeness, functionality, and adherence to BC Provincial standards, procedures and requirements.

  • Supervise licensed professionals and technical staff including assignment of work, mentoring, performance plans and development in the field of geotechnical engineering per provincial standards and best practices.

  • Experience managing concurrent projects of substantial scopes and interpreting geotechnical specifications and standards and providing direction and leadership to project teams.

  • Lead proposals and teaming for design assignments through collaboration with other business lines within AECOM.

  • Project manage assignments from planning through design and construction including leading project meetings, developing scope, schedule & budget and collaborating with design team and client.

  • Prepare or lead the delivery of design and construction phases status reports for client and project teams.

  • Perform or lead field reviews and/or coordinate site construction activities ensuring compliance with construction contract documents and design intents.

  • Provide site assessments on a short notice with ability to travel province wide for emergency responses post mudslides, flooding, and extreme weather events.

  • Assist with the preparation of regulatory requirements, permits, environmental assessments and stakeholder consultation.

  • Propose opportunities and assist with business development and highway engineering team building in BC.

  • Implement corporate policies related to quality management and sustainable legacies while supporting AECOM’s vision, values, and key business development priorities.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering

  • 8 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering on complex multidisciplinary projects.

  • Experienced with the applications of BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure Provincial Standard Specifications and BC Supplement to the TAC Geometric Design Guide for Canadian Roads.

  • Experienced designing specifications for earthworks, pavements, geohazards, soil and rock slope stability, excavation for highway grading projects and foundations for bridges, sign structures and retaining walls.

  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration with Engineers & Geoscientists BC.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experienced with the application of BC Bridge Standards and Procedures and Supplement to Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC).

  • Knowledge and experience in developing and interpreting highway engineering policies, practices, procedures, standards, and regulations in BC.

  • Ability to interpret application of the BC Motor Vehicle and BC Transportation Acts.

  • Familiarity with Master Municipal Construction Documents and BC Building Codes.

  • Specialized expertise in pile analysis, settlement analysis, ground improvements, seepage analysis, liquefaction assessment and seismic engineering.

  • Experienced or working knowledge of a variety of software programs used for soil performance analysis.

  • Ability to resolve claims with respect to Changed ground conditions.

  • Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $150,000.00 - $175,000.00.
