We are seeking a consultant-level professional to join our Environmental Due Diligence team. The successful applicant will work within our UK and Ireland EHS practice and will be responsible for conducting Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESA), preparing due diligence reports, undertaking site inspections, and working with internal clients and grow opportunities within the AECOM business. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental science, regulatory knowledge, and a passion for sustainable practices in the context of corporate transactions.

As our EHS & Remediation team covers UK & I , and we support hybrid working we are flexible in terms of base location.This position can be based from our offices in Birmingham, Basingstoke, Bristol, Cardiff, Croydon, Dublin, Edinburgh, Leeds, London, Nottingham, or Manchester.
Here’s what you’ll do:
Environmental Site Assessments (ESA): Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments in accordance with ASTM standards, local regulations, and industry best practices. Assess the environmental condition of sites for transactions such as land acquisitions, sales, and redevelopment projects.
Field Inspections & Data Collection: Conduct site inspections, historical research, and document reviews to gather data for assessment purposes. Review past land use, previous environmental reports, and any applicable planning permissions. Be reasonably flexible and willing to travel nationally to conduct site visits.
Risk Assessment & Reporting: Identify, assess, and report on potential environmental risks and liabilities, such as contamination, hazardous materials, and non-compliance with environmental regulations.
Client Interaction: Work directly with clients to understand their needs, provide insight on environmental risks, and deliver due diligence reports. Present findings clearly and professionally in both verbal and written formats.
Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated with environmental law, UK government guidance, and the Environment Agency's protocols.
Collaboration: Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure clients are fully informed of environmental risks in the context of transactions.

Here’s what we’re looking for:
Education: A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certification such as Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv), Chartered Geologist (CG), or Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) is an advantage.
Experience: A minimum of 3 years’ experience in environmental consulting, with a focus on environmental due diligence and risk management.
Regulatory Knowledge: Solid understanding of UK environmental law.
Site Investigation and Risk Assessment: Experience conducting Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessments in the UK. Knowledge of soil and groundwater contamination assessment and risk management.
Project Management: Demonstrable experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and working to deadlines while ensuring high-quality deliverables.
Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing comprehensive due diligence reports, as well as presenting findings to clients, stakeholders, and regulators.
Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills: Ability to identify environmental risks, develop practical solutions, and make informed recommendations based on data and legal/regulatory frameworks.
