Job Description

AECOM is seeking a talented and highly motivated Senior Performance Design Specialist to join the High-Performance Buildings and Communities team. This role can be based in: Orange, CA; San Francisco, CA; Los Angeles, CA; Seattle, WA; Dallas, TX; Denver, CO; or Chicago, IL

This highly collaborative, multidisciplinary team provides design leadership and advisory services to clients striving to realize more sustainable and resilient with projects ranging from the design of net zero buildings to the sustainable planning of cities.

The successful candidate will be a team player at their core who can work with others in a multi-disciplinary team with a passion for collective success. They will not only undertake building performance analysis but also mentor junior staff to deliver on projects. The person should be able to develop and protect relationships with clients and provide a range of services tailored to their needs.

The team’s recent and ongoing projects include developing leading the high-performance building design of the LA Clippers Intuit Dome from early concept into operation, working on California Department of General Services first designed Net Zero field office and working on the New York Borough Jails project creating smaller, safer and more equitable system to replace Rikers jail. In addition, the team recently completed the early-stage design of zero-carbon district energy systems at UC Riverside and Toronto International Airport; portfolio net zero plans for SDG&E Facilities and major corporate portfolios in California; and working with NREL to develop a campus infrastructure planning digital twin.

The candidate will have a technical background such as Engineering, Building Sciences, Sustainability, Architecture or similar, and a minimum of 4 years professional experience in the green building/design sector.

The responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:

  • High performance building modelling and evaluation including but not limited to ASHRAE 90.1 energy modeling, local code calculations, daylight simulations, parametric design modeling and embodied carbon calculations.

  • Providing leadership on energy modeling related projects taking large projects from conception to completion.

  • Review of mechanical drawings and mechanical equipment submittals and/ or architectural drawings and specifications against high performance goals and sustainable certification criteria

  • Working or leading others in a multi-disciplinary team to undertake analysis and produce reports for deadlines

  • Preparing and presenting results and professional recommendations, in report or graphical format, to clients and teams

  • Undertaking project reviews and mentoring junior staff.

  • Creating staff plans for project delivery, monitoring and adjusting them on a regular basis.

  • Developing and communicating ideas clearly and concisely

  • Guiding our in-house disciplines to identify opportunities to meet client sustainability goals and requirements.

  • Prepare and present results and professional recommendations, in report or presentation format to clients and internal teams.

  • Supporting on proposals for energy related tasks and projects.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required in Engineering, Building Sciences, Sustainability Architecture, or a related field +4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience/education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred 6+ years of experience

  • Masters' degree preferred in sustainability-related field

  • Knowledge and experience undertaking building energy modeling and/or parametric design.

  • Understanding of high performance and zero carbon building principles and technologies

  • Experience of work in the high-performance sustainable design sector

  • Experience in building energy modeling tools such as IES VE, Energy Plus etc.

  • Experience with building performance analysis including daylight modeling and glare analysis

  • Experience with building energy codes and standards including ASHRAE 90.1 and Title 24 Part 6

  • Knowledge of sustainability assessment systems (such as LEED, WELL, ENVISION)

  • Additional certifications/licenses e.g. ASHRAE BEMP, CEM, LEED AP, ENV SP are a plus

  • Experience in building performance analysis tools such as Ladybug Tools, Diva, WUFI, EC3, OneClick LCA etc.

  • Experience in producing and reviewing MEP drawings or architectural Revit models

  • Experience in the assessment of distributed generation assets (solar PV, battery energy storage, etc.)

  • Ability to balance various project and company responsibilities and deadlines, while maintaining professionalism and quality

  • Adaptable and flexible, showing a willingness and ability to take on new projects or areas with or without supervision, as required

  • Team-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to proficiently communicate both internally and externally to build collaborative relationships

Additional Information

  • Hybrid office options available

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $90,000.00 - $130,000.00.
