Job Description

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking Assistant Resident Engineer (Structures) for highways and bridges project to be based on site in Bahrain. The Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE) will lead the site team and is responsible for managing the services' scope to ensure that the site activities are executed by following the construction documents and specifications and in compliance with Ministry of Works requirements.

Job Duties

  • Reporting to the Resident Engineer (RE) and/ or Senior Resident Engineer (SRE)/ Senior Project Manager, the Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE) will assist and support the RE or SRE with a range of site activities and tasks to ensure that the site activities are executed and implemented by following the construction documents and specifications.

  • The ARE will liaise with all relevant Authorities and Clients regarding site related requirements and coordinate with the Discipline Engineers on site..

  • Supervises quality assurance inspection staff and sub-consultants to verify the work is performed in compliance with the plans and specifications;

  • Supports the RE/SRE in assuming the Engineer's Delegate role in administering the Contract Administration.

  • Monitors and assumes responsibility for the safety of AECOM’s staff and Contractor's personnel.

  • Coordinates and communicates with the Client, Authorities and Contractors personnel.

  • Processes daily project documentation and construction observations.

  • Prepares, issues and tracks Contractor’s Non-Conformance reports.

  • Reviews Inspectors’ and Sub-consultants’ Daily Work Reports.

  • Prepares correspondence to the Contractor and Client.

  • May provide technical direction to Engineers, Inspectors and Surveyors.

  • Leads Weekly Progress Meetings with the Client, Contractor and other team members in the absence of the RE.

  • Maintains project documents in accordance with Company and Client requirements.

  • Prepares monthly project status updates.

  • Performs other duties as required by the work and assigned by the RE/SRE.

  • Performs walk-downs and inspections of installed commodities to assure conformance with specifications and design.

  • Assumes people management responsibilities such as daily timekeeping, performance management, annual performance review and the development and mentoring of staff.

  • Should know FIDIC based contracts or equivalent.

Qualifications

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field

  • MSC in Engineering, PMI/PMP preferred

Specific Skills Required

  • Having relevant experience in supervising cable stay bridges, marine bridges and grade separated junctions. This experience is the determining factor for this role

  • Have working knowledge in supervising works as applicable

  • Management experience with the ability to lead a team and communicate and interact with all other infrastructure disciplines

  • Client coordination

  • Reporting and communication skills

  • Must be pro-active, adaptable and a motivated team player.

  • Must have excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Must be a self-starter and possess leadership qualities

  • Able to set priorities and meeting critical time deadlines

  • Able to interface with both clients and other inter-office discipline at a senior level

Experience

  • Minimum 12 years of experience in civil engineering/bridges projects

  • Minimum of 5 years experience on cable stayed bridges

Additional Comments

This is project specific opportunity for 36 months and depending on future requirements the appointment could be extended to wider projects in the region.
