Job Description
AECOM Buildings + Places team is seeking a Senior Industrial Mechanical Engineer to join our team. This location of this position is flexible: it could be based out of our Canadian offices with hybrid-work permitted.
AECOM Buildings + Places Canada (B+P Canada) is a vibrant and growing fully integrated team spanning architecture, all the building’s engineering disciplines, landscape architecture, urban planning, urban design, economics and asset management for design and infrastructure projects.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a Senior Industrial Mechanical Engineer with experience in industrial and maintenance operations as well as associated equipment such as fluid storage and distribution, hydraulic systems, lifts, ventilation systems and other industrial elements to work on Operations, Maintenance and Storage facility projects, particularly bus and rail facilities.
This is expected to be technical role focused specifically on Industrial Engineering. General Mechanical (ie. HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection and Project Management) is not the focus of this role.
Major Responsibilities:
A key member of the mechanical design team, the job incumbent will:
Conduct research into the feasibility, design, operation and performance of mechanisms, components, process and systems for industrial facilities including but not limited to transit maintenance and operations;
Performs research, analysis and selection of equipment suitable for operations within industrial facilities including but not limited to cranes, hoists, wash bays, paint and coating booths and weld bays;
Provide conceptual design at the early stages of the project and develop the concept to high quality detailed design,
Co-ordinate with all disciplines, work with structural engineers to analyze dynamics and vibrations of mechanical systems and structures
Perform calculations, conduct design drawing reviews, and field investigations;
Ensure design conforms with all applicable industrial codes;
Write/ edit performance based industrial specifications;
Construction administration of various facilities;
Supervise and inspect the installation, modification and commissioning of industrial systems at construction sites;
Prepare contract documents and evaluate tenders for industrial construction or maintenance;
Work collaboratively as part of a team providing guidance to other engineers and technologists as required;
Prepare level of effort estimates and manage effort spent on industrial engineering scope on projects and opportunities.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, candidates must possess, at a very minimum:
Bachelor Degree in Industrial System or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent + six (6) years of experience in the mechanical design of various buildings, including OMS facilities such as bus garages.
Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in good standing in Canada.
Preferred Requirements:
15+ years of experience in the industrial design of various buildings, including Operations, Maintenance, Storage Facilities and buildings such as bus garages
Experience in the design of rail and transit maintenance facilities, including selection of all equipment including hoists, lifts, cranes, turn tables
In-depth knowledge of fluid storage and distribution, material handling, and industrial ventilation systems such as dust and fume control
Well organized, self-directed work habits with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and schedule tasks managing multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment.
Very strong communication skills, spoken and written; good presentation skills.
Must be able to prepare written reports and deliver results in a clear manner to
technical or non-technical audience.
Able to work independently or as part of a team.
Additional Information
Relocation is not available for this position.
Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.
Travel to construction sites to conduct mechanical inspections and prepare reports is required.
Some out-of-town travel expected.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $120,000.00 - $160,000.00.
