AECOM New Grad Geotechnical Engineering in Mississauga, Ontario

Job Summary

AECOM has a geotechnical team of 20+ staff in Ontario with approximately 10 based in Mississauga, including our geotechnical laboratory that carries out material testing of soils and aggregates. Our geotechnical team is part of the Geosciences group of about 40 staff that includes hydrogeologists and geologists.

The geotechnical team carries out field investigations and prepares geotechnical reports, and the entry level engineer would be involved in the following:

  • Field supervision of geotechnical investigations, borehole logging and monitoring well installation,

  • Field inspection and testing of soils and concrete and geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring,

  • Laboratory testing of soils and aggregates (eg. sieve and hydrometer, Atterberg Limits, consolidation testing),

  • Preparation of borehole logs including soil classification, preparation of gINT logs, and

  • Support in preparation of geotechnical reports and proposals.

The new hire may also be involved in slope stability assessments, finite element analyses for foundation designs, deep excavation designs, settlement analyses, etc., depending on education and experience.

Current projects include Gordie Howe International Bridge, Finch West Light Rail Transit, projects with CN Rail, Metrolinx, City of Toronto, Toronto Transit Commission, Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, and other municipal and private clients.

Minimum Requirements

BA/BS + None or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Geotechnical/Civil Engineering with co-op terms or relevant summer work experience.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Strong team work, able to listen to requirements and work well with others.

  • Ability to manage time effectively.

  • Excellent attention to detail and a thorough approach to work.

  • Position requires a tolerance for working in outdoor environments in a range of weather conditions.

  • Must be able to bend, stoop and lift objects up to 50 pounds and safely drive a full-size pickup truck.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license in province of residence.

  • A graduate level degree (MSc or PhD) in geotechnical engineering.

  • Ability to travel, including extended travel, when necessary.
