Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our team. This position is based on-site, out of Mississauga. We are seeking professionals to join our team to help us build one of the most advanced, sustainable and passenger-friendly airports in the world.
Major Responsibilities:
Provides expert advice, guidance, and subject matter expertise throughout the planning, design, and execution of the program, ensuring compliance with all relevant structural codes and standards.
Ensures structural design and construction meet technical requirements through design reviews, submittal assessments, and testing.
Conducts Facility Alteration Permit (FAP) compliance reviews for proposed renovations, alterations, maintenance work, and new construction projects.
Delivers non-resident engineering expertise through field inspections at various stages of construction.
Evaluates alternative technical proposals submitted by contractors, assessing feasibility and alignment with client requirements.
Manages the technical aspects of the program related to civil and structural engineering, setting targets and goals.
Facilitates coordination between engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure seamless integration across programs, facilities, and assets.
Reviews contractor and designer deliverables to confirm compliance with relevant codes, standards, and project requirements.
Monitors the designer’s input throughout construction, overseeing RFIs, shop drawings, material approvals, mock-ups, and punch lists.
Provides management-level progress reports and briefings on structural design, highlighting key developments, challenges, and opportunities.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, candidates must possess, at a very minimum:
- University Degree in Civil / Structural engineering + 4 years of relevant experience in structural design, construction and commissioning of major capital developments including airport facilities.
Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.
Preferred Requirements:
Registered Professional Engineer.
Extensive experience in assessing existing structures and leading major structural retrofit projects using various techniques.
Proven expertise in applying all major Canadian structural design codes and standards, including in-depth knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada and CSA design codes and standards.
Proficiency in 3D structural analysis, modeling, and design software, as well as other computer-aided design tools relevant to this role.
Strong background in designing and restoring structures using steel, concrete, masonry, and timber.
Experience with ASCE 41 for the retrofit of existing structures.
Proficiency in various computer applications, including Bluebeam and the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Demonstrated experience using MicroStation, BIM, and AutoCAD to support team development.
Knowledge of asset management principles as they apply to structural systems.
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to facilitate meetings and workshops involving large groups of stakeholders.
Additional Information
This position requires work on-site/out of the office 5 days a week.
Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $81,000.00 - $135,000.00.
