Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry Level Transportation Planner for employment in the New York, NY office

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Assist project managers and task leaders in the management of project technical tasks and project administration

  • Collect, organize, review, and analyze social, economic, and physical data obtained through research, modeling tools, geographic information systems or associated databases

  • Prepare charts, tables, maps, and other materials for inclusion in reports and/or use during public meetings

  • Perform site studies under the supervision of Project Manager or other senior staff

  • Collaborate with engineers to research, analyze, or resolve complex transportation design issues

  • Develop design ideas for new or improved transport infrastructure, including transit stations and alignments, pedestrian projects, bicycle facilities, complete streets, connected and autonomous vehicles, highways, and parking

  • Review development plans for transportation system effects, infrastructure requirements, and compliance with applicable transportation regulations

  • Assist in environmental and NEPA-related projects and tasks, including EIS, EA, and CE documentation with FTA, FRA, and FHWA as lead agencies

  • Participate in public meetings and hearings to explain planning proposals, gather feedback from those affected by projects, or achieve consensus on project designs

  • Manage comment and response databases and Stakeholder Notification databases; and

  • Write technical memoranda, reports, and presentations in order to communicate complex transportation technical information in clear, engaging and creative ways to a variety of audiences

  • Supports planning studies and reports for new and updated plans, programs and regulations.

  • Collects a variety of statistical data and prepares reports and maps on topics, such as census information, land use, transportation tax base data and occupancy rates

  • Coordinates community review of public and private development projects

  • Provides information to the public regarding transportation projects

  • Assists in resolving citizen and customer issues

  • Under direct supervision, conducts field evaluations and assessments

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in planning, engineering, environmental science, public policy or a related field

  • 0-2 years of relevant work experience. Intern work is acceptable

  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, including developing engaging reports and memoranda for a range of clients, public stakeholder, and decision-maker audiences

  • Excellent document delivery skills

  • Report organization and technical editing, development of information graphics, an efficient delegation of assignments, and the ability to work under multiple deadlines;Task management experience and the ability to perform qualitative and quantitative technical analyses with limited supervision

  • Proficient in MS Office, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite, and ideally ArcGIS

  • Bi-lingual Spanish / English
