Job Description

AECOM has an exciting opportunity for a Traffic Engineer Analyst/Microsimulation Specialist to provide in-house consulting services with Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise. As part of the Florida Department of Transportation, Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise consists of over 500 miles of limited-access roadways across the state.

This role places a strong emphasis on technical understanding of traffic engineering/planning principles, writing and communication skills, and the ability to ensure delivery excellence. You’ll have the chance to bring original ideas and be at the forefront of planning and design, supporting future transportation improvements on existing roadways and new corridors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transportation Planning Assignments:

  • Micro-simulation

  • Corridor studies

  • Safety studies

  • Interchange Access Request (IAR) documentation

  • Transportation System Management and Operations (TSM&O) studies

  • Traffic Analysis:

  • Conduct traffic analysis for Project Development and Environment (PD&E) and Design projects using HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic, and Visum/Vissim software.

  • Analyze crash data and conduct predictive safety analysis.

  • Design Project Support:

  • Prepare Typical Section, Equivalent Single Axle Loads (ESAL), and Lane Closure analysis memorandums.

  • Collect traffic data or perform field surveys as needed.

  • Coordination and Collaboration:

  • Coordinate with other technical disciplines, including conceptual design, environmental management, traffic operations, right of way, and others to develop recommendations for proposed improvements.

  • Reporting and Presentation:

  • Assist with written reports and presentations of project findings that support PD&E studies, Design/Concept projects, signal warrant analysis, and corridor retiming studies.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • BS in Civil Engineering (with a focus on transportation), Urban Planning or a related field.

  • Four years of related experience in traffic analysis or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Prefe rred:

  • Master’s or PhD degree in a related engineering or planning discipline.

  • Experience with traffic operational analysis software such as HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic, and Vissim/Visum.

  • Knowledge of statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, R) and programming languages (e.g., VBA, C++, Python).

  • Proficiency in safety analysis using tools like HSM, SPICE, ISATe, and IHSMD.

  • Familiarity with the FDOT Traffic Analysis Handbook, Highway Capacity Manual, MUTCD, Highway Safety Manual, and Interchange Access Request User Guide.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience in making presentations.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $75,000.00 - $110,000.00.
