Job Description

AECOM has a fabulous opportunity for a Senior Civil / Highway Engineer to join our civil / highway engineering practice in Pittsburgh, PA.

We are seeking an experienced, client-focused engineer who desires to be a Technical Leader with opportunity for growth into management. The Senior Civil / Highway Engineer will be responsible for the development of technical concepts and designs related to the roadway, traffic control and drainage aspects of a variety of transportation infrastructure projects.

Current notable projects include:

  • I-80 Reconstruction (Jefferson County, PA) - Six-mile section of rural interstate reconstruction including mainline widening, interchange ramp improvements, and reconstruction of two overhead bridges.

  • I-70 Reconstruction (Washington County, PA) - Model-based delivery project for a six-mile section of rural interstate reconstruction including mainline widening, interchange ramp improvements, and reconstruction of 18 structures through the corridor.

  • Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission – Toll Plaza demolition design for 5 locations along the western section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike

  • W Washington St Reconstruction (Bradford, PA) - Model-based delivery pilot project for a one-mile section of urban corridor, including full depth roadway reconstruction, sidewalk improvements and drainage upgrades.

Job Summary/Responsibilities:

  • Perform engineering, planning, and modeling efforts for all areas of roadway design projects.

  • Establish technical scope, work plan and work schedule in support of the Project Manager.

  • Coordinate all highway engineering technical aspects of pursuits and projects with other disciplines and in support of the Project/Design Manager.

  • Collaborate with other engineers, planners, and modelers to research, analyze, or resolve complex transportation analyses or design issues.

  • Interact and coordinate regularly with clients and subconsultants in the various assignments.

  • Manage groups of engineers, designers and/or specialists towards development of design documents and contract deliverables with minimal guidance or supervision.

  • Ensure the roadway design is completed in accordance with the contract guidelines and design documents.

  • Provide technical guidance and perform quality control reviews of design calculations, drawings and other contract documents.

  • Provide specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.

  • Prepare and or/guide the development of technical specifications and construction cost estimates.

  • Ensure that QA/QC procedures are being implemented and ensure the technical quality of deliverables.

  • Assist with business development activities in providing responses to RFP, RFQ, and SOQ including technical writing, and scope and fee development.

  • Train, mentor and develop staff and support career growth opportunities for staff, as a Deputy Department Manager in the group.

  • Develop study and design procedures to facilitate high-quality cost-effective work by others.

  • Understand trends, best practices, and innovation in the transportation industry and explore opportunities of implementing them on projects.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or other equivalent degree + eight (8) years of related work experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Experience collaborating with / working on projects with PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.

  • PE License in Pennsylvania (or a reciprocal State) or the ability to obtain a PE within 6 months of hire.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience in civil engineering with an emphasis on Roadway, Drainage, Traffic Control, Constructability, Site-Civil projects.

  • Project design team lead experience.

  • Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD), InRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or similar design applications.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • MS Office software application skills, such as spreadsheet, word processing, and standard office software.

  • Industry standard computer software

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $120,000.00 - $185,000.00.
