Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Outreach and Engagement Specialist based in the Hartford, CT region. In this position, you will be a member of the Outreach and Engagement team on our CT rides project, which manages the Connecticut Department of Transportation's statewide transportation demand management (TDM) program.

This program aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality by encouraging Connecticut residents to use sustainable and active transportation modes such as carpooling, public transportation, and bicycling. As a CT rides Outreach and Engagement Specialist, you will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with CT rides partners within an assigned territory. You will assist these partners with the development and implementation of sustainable and active transportation programs that help reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality. You will work in a fast-paced team environment following a sales model with monthly performance metrics.

Responsibilities of this role include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Performs a range of transportation demand management, marketing, outreach, and sales activities to influence individual travelers, commuters, and students to utilize non-drive-alone means of transportation, including carpooling, vanpooling, public transit, bicycling, walking, telecommuting, and other options.

  • Develops, promotes, and implements a range of worksite, school-based, and community programs to improve air quality and reduce traffic congestion.

  • Benchmark and analyze growth in TDM services and employer programs monthly, quarterly, and annually.

  • Analyzes data from ride matching/tracking programs, geographic information systems, and associated databases.

  • Provides Travel Demand Management guidance to employers, educational, and community institutions.

  • Assists with reporting on program progress for monthly/quarterly reports, including developing written summaries of activities underway.

  • Participates in Statewide project events, which help to further the program’s goals.

  • Proactively offers telework solutions to employer-based partners and stakeholders.

  • Provides consultations and needs analyses for employer organizations, business associations, civic associations, local government agencies, and others in the State.

  • Works to establish, oversee, and coordinate sustainable transportation programs, including giving management training presentations for employer partners and stakeholders within an assigned region.

  • Accurately document all sales and outreach activity within an assigned region using Salesforce, according to project protocols.

  • Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of the commute alternative programs in place in an assigned region, using established metrics.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of various TDM strategies, including carpools, vanpools, transit, and Emergency Ride Home programs, to influence transportation mode choice away from drive-alone travel.

  • Develop new and existing clients through cold calls, networking, and other means to engage prospective partners and reengage existing.

  • There will be a balance of required in-office and field work, including traveling to various employer locations to conduct outreach activities.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS in Communications or related field plus demonstrated equivalency of experience and /or education.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office computer applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Valid US Driver’s License required, as a condition of employment must pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records review.

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with sales or business development experience, with a track record of meeting or exceeding growth targets.

  • Demonstrated ability to prospect, build, and manage relationships with diverse stakeholders, community organizations, and businesses.

  • Experience with outbound engagement, cold outreach, and lead generation to expand partnerships and program reach.

  • Experience representing an organization at community events, tabling opportunities, and public engagements, with the ability to communicate persuasively and effectively.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a talent for building rapport and trust quickly, both in-person and virtually.

  • Experience with CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce) or outreach tracking systems to manage leads, document activities, and report on progress.

  • Comfortable with flexible schedules, including some evenings and weekends to attend community and partner events.

  • Experience working in transportation, sustainability, or community engagement fields is a plus but not required.

Additional Information

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. for field events and material setup.

  • Ability to work independently in the field, manage a territory, and prioritize activities that drive growth.

  • Willingness to work occasional flexible schedule, evenings and weekends as needed for community events.

  • Reliable means of transportation is required

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $27.86/hour - $38.30/hour.
