Job Description
AECOM has an exciting opportunity for an admitted lawyer with up to 7 years of PQE experience to join our Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) Legal Team, based in Sydney or Perth on a part-time, 3-day-per-week basis. In this role, you will advise on a wide range of transactions for a large multinational engineering consultancy firm. This includes drafting and negotiating project contracts and related documentation, managing complex disputes, and handling a variety of general corporate matters, including probity and conflicts management, regulatory and compliance issues, intellectual property and insurance matters.
AECOM is involved in some of the largest and most significant infrastructure projects in Australia and globally, including design and construct projects, alliances, and public-private partnerships. As a lawyer and member of the broader ANZ Legal Team, you will play an integral role in delivering these projects and contributing to AECOM’s corporate vision of delivering a better world.
What will a day in this role look like:
Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating AECOM’s project contracts (including consultancy services agreements, alliance, tender services, PM and EPCM agreements) and related ancillary documentation (including confidentiality, and joint venture agreements, probity deeds, and IP licenses) for a wide range of construction and engineering projects, primarily across NSW, the ACT and WA. There may be a need to provide services elsewhere within Australia and New Zealand when required.
Providing ad-hoc legal advice regarding AECOM’s project pursuits, including in relation to bid qualification and departure statements, probity and procurement, deal structuring, conflict management and other collateral matters arising in connection with its varied business transactions.
Assisting with the preparation of internal project approvals.
Engaging with internal clients (including senior management and tender teams) during the delivery phase of projects, assisting with the preparation of subcontracts and reviewing EOT, variation, and other contractual claims, and proactively managing, avoiding, and resolving project-related disputes.
Managing claims and disputes, including judicial and administrative litigation, and drafting or settling internal and external communications with law firms, clients, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
What are we looking for from you:
Tertiary qualification in law and admission to practice in WA and NSW.
Ideally up to 7 years of post-admission experience (preference for at least 4 years).
Understanding of infrastructure projects, government procurement processes, and various procurement methods.
Previous experience in a top-tier law firm or in-house at a multinational consultant or contractor is highly desirable.
Strong communication, negotiation skills, and alignment with AECOM’s cultural standards and strategic vision, including key ESG principles.
