Job Description

AECOM is looking for an Associate Director – Transportation to play a pivotal role in a landmark project reshaping Wellington’s Hutt Valley.

In this director level role, you will lead the transport and civil engineering components of Te Awa Kairangi (Riverlink), a major infrastructure and urban renewal initiative alongside other key transport projects in Wellington and the wider ANZ region. Te Awa Kairangi (Riverlink) will enhance flood resilience, improve transport connections, and create a vibrant, sustainable environment for the local community. Additionally, Te Awa Kairangi (Riverlink) includes significant transport upgrades such as improved road layouts, pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, the construction of a new interchange and two bridges to improve connectivity. This incredible regeneration project aims to revitalise the Hutt city center by integrating green spaces, new public areas, and modern urban design to create a more vibrant and accessible environment.

What will a day in this role look like:

  • Lead transport planning, road network upgrades and civil and structures design disciplines in the delivery of major transport infrastructure.

  • Oversee the design, procurement and delivery of key transport infrastructure projects in Wellington and wider ANZ region.

  • Collaborate with government agencies, stakeholders, and engineering teams to deliver on their project objectives.

  • Ensure sustainability, safety, and efficiency in all transport solutions.

  • Drive design and delivery capabilities within the team promoting innovation and best practices in civil engineering and urban transport.

Qualifications

What are we looking for from you

  • Chartered Engineer (preferred) with extensive experience in civil infrastructure projects (preferably roads and highways design and design management)

  • Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Proven track record of delivering large-scale transport projects.

  • Passion for urban development and community-focused solutions.
